Tonight we have our second and final team meeting in Lynchburg, hosted by Centenary UMC at 1501 Rivermont Ave. With 5 star service!
Not only will there be food...You will probally hear the mice as we gather and think* about plans for the first week VBS crafts, games, ideas, and supplies we all must divide up and stuff in our luggage.
The origiginal palns was/is sheep! Cotton balls are cheap(1), unbreakable(2), lightweight(3), extremely packable(4), and go extremely far(5). So I personally like the sheep idea.
But let me share the proposed menu by my connections:
Fresh Melon Cup
Tuna-stuffed Tomato
Broccoli-Cauliflower Salad
Potato Salad
Deviled Eggs
Carrot Garnish
Hot Yeast Rolls – Butter
Iced Tea – Coffee
Lime Angel Food Cake w/
Whipped Topping and Fruit
(Dessert incorporating Brazilian flag colors)
I asked for simple, I hate to see what "all out" means?
I'll catch you up on the flip side of the meeting!

Flight Info
So, with antipipated communication failures and lack of technology...Here is our flight information. The team plan is to blog about our travels once in Brazil, so past the word along!
From Virginia, USA to Curitiba, Brazil:
So there you have it. You can watch us from the airlines website as we sleep, or finalize plans for Vacation Bible School on the way there! Just kidding, we'll finish that when we arrive!
As always, flights subject to change, and we will update using blog if available. Wifi is free! International data plans are NOT!

Team Mission Old vs. New
Greetings Followers:
The original mission was seeking 10-12 called and passionate young adults, both clergy and
laity, for a journey of mission and mutuality to Brazil.
The team will travel from VA to Brasilia, where we will participate in a young adult event
sponsored by the Brazilian Methodist Church called "The Week for Jesus."
Following this week, we will stay with host families for a few days and join
in intentional conversation with a small group of Brazilian Methodist young
adults on topics that are of mutual interest. This trip is focused on
building relationships through mutual ministry and sharing between young
adults in VA and Brazil. We will be staying with our Brazilian counterparts
for the entirety of the trip, at the camp as well as in host family homes
during the second week.
The dates are July 21 - August 4, 2011 and the approximate cost is $2500, though
we are hoping it will be lower! This trip is co-sponsored by the Initiatives
of Hope and the Young Adult Council, and is led by Rev. Kristin Holbrook.
Plans changed in early April, 1 week before Easter.
The new plan for the mission is:
Instead of Brazilia, we are going to Curitiba, which is in the south of Brazil. A pastor named Audir Lopes is coordinating our first week, which the team will be working with one of the Station Projects. For the first week, we will be working with one of these projects, "fresh water projects" which works with poor children and their families. We will be planning activities with the children during a Vacation Bible School.
With only 6 young adults, the team is smaller than anticipated, but strong in energy!
That about sums the beginnig up!

The second week, coordinated in part with the President of the Young Adult Confederation for the Methodist Church in Brazil. Renato is working with some of the young adults in the area to develop a program like we had originally thought about, with conversation and sharing, so this second week will be full of activities involving young adults and churches, including cell groups and worship services.
